...to Manchester Weekend Walkers, a Ramblers' walking group for Greater Manchester and its surrounding areas. If you like the sound of one of our walks and think you'd like to come along, we will be delighted to see you.

Ramblers' groups welcome all sorts of people: we particularly aim to suit those in the middle of their working lives but anyone can join us on a walk. Our aim is to organise walking and other activities for the weekend although, from late spring to early autumn, we like to arrange short evening walks after work too. We also meet mid-week for social activities, including cinema, theatre and visits to pubs and the odd restaurant.

We have a full walking programme coming up. If you would like to get involved, join us! We are looking for volunteers to help lead lots more walks, organise socials and perhaps even plan a weekend away! There is plenty of support available from others in the group.

Walks & Weekend Breaks
We usually arrange several walks every month, as well as regular reasonably-priced weekends away, where we stay in hostels and bunk-houses so we can visit the Peaks, Lakes, North Wales and further afield. In 2017, we organised well over 60 walks either on day trips or as part of the weekends we arranged.

Transport & Travel
Unlike some outdoor groups and clubs, we don't assume that everyone can drive and, being a walking group, we are very interested in sustainable travel. The vast majority of our events are planned around public transport, mainly trains but also trams and buses. Many of our weekends away also have been planned around accommodation that was easily accessible by train from Manchester. This option has proved extremely popular although, just as with the day walks, there's nothing to stop you driving and meeting us at the start if that suits your circumstances better.

Come & Try
We are gaining new members every month so if you do feel like trying us out for the first time, you will probably meet some people who have themselves only recently joined and who will hopefully be more than happy to tell you how friendly we are. You are welcome to join us for upto three walks to see if the group is for you before joining the Ramblers'. If you have any questions then please feel free to contact us on info email address.

Hope to see you on a walk soon!

Test here

Summer may be over, so definitely useful to pack are waterproofs and warm layers, and sturdy boots are also recommended.

We now have over 150 members, a diverse group of people with a range of walking ability. If you want to join us, specify group code 'MR40' when you join the Ramblers, or transfer from another Ramblers' local group.

Are you looking to apply or learn new skills in high-level political lobbying? Do you care about local policies and plans that affect walkers? Would you like to take getting involved with the Ramblers to the next level? The election of the new Metro Mayor is a great opportunity for us to make Greater Manchester even better for walking. We've been campaigning and lobbying on walking issues for many years, but now we want to step up the pace. We're looking for new volunteers to join us to help build relationships with decision-makers, research and scrutinise local policies and promote Ramblers' messages and campaigns.
If this sounds like something you'd be interested in, then please join us as a Local Organiser. This new volunteer role is supported by staff in the Ramblers central office, in conjunction with GM&HP area. Training will be provided and expenses will be paid.
