Join us Our walking group is a part of the Ramblers' Association, which means all our members and Walk Leaders are members of the Ramblers' Association and we hope you will also want to join. You can join the Ramblers' before coming on our walks, but you're also welcome to come and try one or two as our Guest before paying for your annual membership. We always have new people coming out with us and you will be made extremely welcome. When you join us by paying your Ramblers' membership you will support our charitable aims of promoting and protecting the right to walk, but you will also become part of our small community and will hopefully feel part of a group of new friends. Booking You don't need to book to come on our walks unless there's a special occasion, in which case this will be clearly explained in the details, you can normally "just turn up". Getting to a walk All our walks are planned around public transport, and you can meet up with us either at the station before leaving Manchester or at the other end of the train, tram or bus journey.
Choose a suitable walk for your fitness and experience Read all of the details in the walk description, especially the length of the walk (we show this in miles) and the amount of hill climbing (we show this in metres, higher numbers are obviously harder). We aim to give you enough information to help you understand how long you will be out, how far you will walk, if you will be climbing hills or following muddy paths. Look at the level of difficulty which varies from Easy to Leisurely then Moderate to Strenuous - if you are not used to regular country walking we recommend you start with Easy or Leisurely. Shoes and clothes You should think about what you are going to wear on your feet; you don't always need heavy hiking boots, but you will need something comfortable and supportive. You should look at the weather forecast and make sure you have appropriate clothing with you that includes layers for wet, cold or hot weather. Bring Do bring a packed lunch, snacks and water or other non-alcoholic drink - especially in hot weather. Please don't bring your dog (apart from assistance dogs). Our walks may not be suitable for children, please e-mail us to check in advance. |
