Walk Leaders Page - thanks for volunteering!

This page is to help our Walk Leaders quickly find useful links.

Sign-up

To be a Walk Leader, you must be a member of the Ramblers' and registered as a Volunteer with a Walk Leader role. To register, please e-mail the Walks Coordinator who will start this process for you as it can take a week or two. Whilst you are waiting, you can get up to speed with what you need to know by reading the Walk Leader Handbook and in due course the Ramblers' will send you links to work through a couple of online learning packages - only when these are completed can you be listed as the leader on one of our walks.

Out of pocket

We want to encourage Walk Leaders to try new walks and new areas and the Group can help with the cost of maps, online mapping subscriptions and travel costs to complete a recce - check with the Treasurer for details and use our Expenses Claim form when agreed.

Plan Ahead

As a walk leader, you need to assess and mitigate risks on your walks - this is a key part of the role. Please follow the following link to our simple guidance to help you understand and follow the Ramblers' Risk Assessment process (updated Spring 2024).

In the unlikely event...

If something unfortunate happens on a walk you might need to complete an Incident Report for the Ramblers' - check with the Walks Co-ordinator if unsure.
